Rebekah Brooks wins the Woodstock Democratic Primary
I am proud to endorse Rebekah Brooks for Woodstock Town Clerk for the Town Clerk position. Woodstock has a real choice this year, and it is an important one. After more than 20 years with our now-retired Clerk, Jackie Earley, this office is entering a new chapter.
As Town Supervisor, I have had the opportunity to see and work with all candidates, to understand their strengths, approaches, and the skills they would bring to the office. This endorsement is not a statement against anyone. It is a statement about what I believe the Clerk’s Office needs at this moment.
The Clerk’s Office is central to town government, public access, communication, recordkeeping, transparency, and the daily experience residents have with Town Hall. Rebekah brings skills that are desperately needed in that office.
She brings vision, professionalism, creativity, and practical problem-solving. She has demonstrated an ability to balance conflict with grace, listen carefully, and offer solutions beyond the standard we have seen in local government in recent years.
Her plans reflect what other towns are already doing to modernize operations, improve communication, increase transparency, and use resources more effectively. That forward-thinking approach will help not only the Clerk’s Office, but the work we all need to do for Woodstock.
Here in Shandaken, I have proudly served as the elected Town Clerk for nearly 14 years. During that time, our office has worked consistently to improve communication with the public, implement a town-wide alert system, started the town youtube channel for meetings, (recently improved for live feed of meetings), and expanded services for our Public Access TV through Spectrum, for seniors, at-risk residents, and visitors. We are always looking for ways to save people time, money, and effort while ensuring access to important information. Our office was also proactive during COVID, taking steps to keep our community safe.
Early in my tenure, I introduced credit card payments for taxes and other town transactions such as permits and licenses. We later added e-checks, which offer a low flat fee of $1.50. After extensive research, I shared this solution with neighboring municipalities, including Woodstock, though they chose not to participate at the time. Similarly, when we developed our own online tax collection website—working with a local webmaster—we again extended the opportunity to collaborate, but it was also declined.
As of 2026, Woodstock still accepts only cash, checks, or money orders. By contrast, Shandaken was the first Town Clerk’s office in Ulster County to implement an online tax payment system, funded within our budget at a very reasonable cost, with no additional burden to taxpayers.
Woodstock, NY is one of the most recognized towns in the world. Providing modern, convenient services to residents and visitors is both achievable and cost-effective. In my experience, public service requires continual effort, innovation, and a focus on the needs of the people we serve.
When I met Rebekah Brooks, I was impressed by her understanding of the gaps in service in Woodstock, and her commitment to improving them. She has my full support. I have already shared my experience and processes with her so she can begin effectively from day one. I am also willing to assist her in 2027 with tax collection to ensure a smooth transition.
Rebekah plans to introduce a town alert system, online tax information and payment options, including credit card payment services, both in-office and online. I have offered to help guide her through the setup to ensure there is no disruption in service.
It is clear to me that Rebekah understands and embraces the meaning of public service. Combined with her intelligence, energy, positive attitude and abounding love for the Town of Woodstock, you have an exciting candidate to take your town where it so deserves to go. I hope you all support her fully!
My son went to California, met a girl from Virginia, and brought her home to Woodstock. Since she moved here, I have discovered her helpful nature. I am an artist and artists are not grant writers or website designers or publicists. We need help with those things. Over the last four years, Rebekah Brooks has helped me write three gallery and grant applications. She designed a website for the unveiling of my two love knots after I had them recast last year and helped me to publicize the events to the public. She has helped me digitize and organize my extensive body of work, and anytime I have a problem with my computer or my phone, she has been there for me.
So. I’m not surprised she is running for town clerk in Woodstock, a town I love since I came here in the late 90’s. Rebekah Brooks is a helper. Let her help Woodstock.
Woodstock Love Knot Unveiling (Recast) - April 2025
I strongly support Rebekah Brooks for town clerk in Woodstock. I have had the privilege of working closely with her over the past few months and she has proven herself to be organized, creative, strategic, smart and collaborative.
When Sylvia Bullet and I began planning an eight- day, town-wide earth week festival for the Town of Woodstock, we recognized that the effort would involve many logistics, clear communication and collaboration.
What was missing was a website! Rebekah Brooks saw that need and volunteered because she recognized that people deserved to have one central place to visit and explore the myriad events. She was able to translate the materials into a user-friendly site while honoring the vision of the organizers.
Rebekah has a unique balance of technical expertise and people skills that are exactly what we need to enhance the office of town clerk. Rebekah listens well and communicates promptly often finding collaborative solutions for difficult decisions. Rebekah’s past experiences in management, fundraising, banking and outreach and promotional marketing have given her the experience to support every aspect of our earth week planning.
Woodstock is fortunate to have a candidate of this caliber running for town clerk.
Woodstock has a lot of issues that need a highly skilled and collaborative team that has the capability and acumen to clean up the mess left from the past and the vision and capability to multitask on not just their favorite issue or linear topic of interest, but the 50+ issues that face a local government every day. Our current supervisor and newly elected majority town board members have been working their butts off to find concrete solutions and meaningful changes to make this happen. I think it is important to listen to them when I asked: “Who do you want to work with to accomplish this uphill challenge?” This was their answer:
1. Daniel Gallant for town councilperson on the town board (replacing Reginald Earls, who is not seeking to be elected, but just helping us out till the end of the year — thank you, Reggie!).
2. Rebekah Brooks for town clerk.
When you look at their resumes — since this is a job that taxpayers will pay for and we should all be looking at their qualifications — you can quickly see they are well-equipped and actually bring additional skills and background knowledge needed to help the town board majority succeed. Moreover, both of them have already been working their tooshies off helping our town for free for over six months, showing us they care and are willing to pull up their sleeves and get the work done with the current administration.
I will be voting for them because it is imperative that we have a well-oiled machine fixing our town and rebuilding our community!
Rebekah reached out to me a few months back to talk about my experience as a new clerk, and get some information about my campaign. We spoke for hours. I liked her a lot and thought she had good ideas. I then met her at a fundraising campaign event a friend of hers hosted. At this event, I offered my help with either door knocking or phone calling. I did not formally endorse her (whatever that means) because I can't vote for her. If I could vote for her, I would, and I'll be rooting for her next Tuesday.
We are writing to convey our wholehearted support of Rebekah Brooks for Woodstock Town Clerk, running in the Democratic primary this month. Rebekah brings so much to the table that will help our community and town government today and far into the future. She has shown exceptional skill with technology, writing, research, logistics, analysis, web and graphic production — coupled with her experience in management in nonprofits and government programs, organization and collaborative problem solving.
We feel so fortunate that she has joined our community. Rebekah moved to Woodstock three years ago and her family has deep roots in the community: her husband has been coming here for over a decade and her father-in-law is a local artist. As long-time residents in the Town of Woodstock, we have seen firsthand the impressive skills, character, dedication Rebekah has already brought to Woodstock. She jumped right in, volunteering for the housing committee where she has provided invaluable input, assisted with community outreach and committee strategic planning and organization. She helped out Complete Streets with logistics and hands-on support of the March 2025 public meeting, including both live and public access, as well as creating a website, promotional materials and event logistics for the wonderful Woodstock’s Earth Week program.
Moreover, with her fresh eyes she has the requisite skills, experience, personality and vision that lend themselves perfectly to this vital position of town clerk. She will be a friendly and approachable public face, bringing head and heart together to the benefit of all in our town, who can deliver the services needed with rigor and excellence. We believe that Rebekah will make an exceptional town clerk. We urge all registered Woodstock Democrats to vote for Rebekah Brooks in the upcoming primary – early voting starts June 13th and election day is June 23rd.
I have been taking videos of town board meetings for the last four to five years because of the inept technical abilities and poor electronic equipment that frankly shouldn’t be happening in a town full of musicians and recording studios. That said, if you are fed up with poor audio and video attempts by our town governance, please vote for Rebekah Brooks for town clerk. Rebekah has already been helping the committees and town with recording and audio failures and has a resume that shows her experience in that field. She will expand the town clerk’s job to include being responsible for the tech zooms and possibly a live stream of events. This is all in the interest of broadening our transparency and communication. She has plans for the TV station that has been deteriorating for lack of updated equipment, for years now.
Let’s finally improve our town’s technical abilities to meet the needs of our residents, particularly those of us who can’t make all the town mtgs. and want to stay informed about what’s happening. Vote for Rebekah Brooks for town clerk!! Please and thank you!!
Disclosure: I am a member of the Woodstock Democratic Committee; however, the committee did not endorse a candidate in the town clerk race. This endorsement reflects my personal views alone.
After attending the Woodstock candidates forum last Thursday, I decided to cast my vote for Rebekah Brooks for town clerk.
What impressed me most was Rebekah’s genuine commitment to serving the people of Woodstock in new and creative ways. She has taken the initiative to connect with town clerks in neighboring communities to learn what is working well and how they are improving services for residents. That willingness to listen, learn and bring new ideas to Woodstock speaks volumes about her approach to public service.
I am excited by her vision for modernizing the clerk’s office. Improvements such as online and credit-card payments would make town services more convenient and accessible. I also appreciate willingness to seek funding opportunities to bring additional resources to our community. My husband and I are particularly excited about her ideas for reviving the public access station.
Perhaps most importantly, Rebekah brings a fresh perspective. She is not tied to the way things have always been done and approaches this role with energy, optimism and creativity. I believe those qualities will serve Woodstock well.
I am voting for Rebekah Brooks because I believe she will serve Woodstock with integrity, embrace innovation and create a town clerk’s office that is modern, responsive and unmistakably Woodstock.
We are so fortunate to have Rebekah--she's a tireless angel!
Rebekah is a badass whose campaign "strategy" is actually just to be and do who and what she is rather than talk about what she'll do and when....This makes me beyond excited!
I support Rebekah Brooks for the position of town clerk in Woodstock. I have been working with Rebekah on the Woodstock Housing Committee for over two years. In that time, Rebekah has made an enormous contribution to the committee by spearheading community engagement through her work on newsletters, social media, planning community meetings and crafting presentations. She has been an integral part of the committee’s work to create affordable housing in Woodstock.
Rebekah has superlative technical and digital skills and works incredibly quickly. She is kind and supportive and 100% reliable. Rebekah’s previous experience in technology and change management, combined with her ability to think creatively when evaluating problems, makes her a unique candidate in local government. She will work tirelessly to modernize the town’s systems, communicate information and make useful connections for the betterment of the Woodstock community.
As a long-time member of the Housing Committee in Woodstock, one of my biggest pleasures has been working with Rebekah Brooks. Her communication and organizational skills and her friendly and incredibly smart personality make her an ideal choice for Town Clerk.
