In 2019, the Woodstock Human Rights Commission helped pass a Municipal Identification Card program for Woodstockers (read more about it in this Daily Freeman article). The purpose was to help groups, such as elderly, youth, and immigrants, to have at least one form or more than one form of ID, and give Woodstock residents access to other benefits like discounts to businesses.
Yes! Many nearby communities do this, such as Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Middletown, Newburgh, and Beacon. These cards have many benefits, not the least of which is to help our migrant community who might not otherwise be able to get other official documentation.
We are already set up to do this, so I would put it into action by:
Fully implementing this program and publicizing how residents can apply.
Raising awareness to organizations around town whose employees or community members would benefit from it.
Working with local organizations and businesses to create more benefits or discount programs for cardholders.
